Almost 200 Volunteers attended our annual volunteer recognition dinner on April 19, 2012 at Asbury United Methodist Church. This year’s theme was "Traveling Miles to Deliver Meals." In 2011, Meals on Wheels volunteers made 85,509 visits, delivered 132,562 meals, drove 144,640 miles and donated 35,051 hours!
Volunteers with 200 hours or more of service were recognized with certificates and those with 500 hours or more received certificates and special items based upon the category of service hours donated. Of particular note were the volunteers who reached 2500 hours of service or more in 2011. These volunteers join other 2500+ hours volunteers on the Agency’s Wall of Honor. They are: Helen Heisler, Karen Kneifel, Larry Kneifel, Rita Natishak, and Joyce Stinner.
Event attendees enjoyed a lovely dinner of salad, chicken, wild rice and string beans prepared by Cura Hospitality. Chocolate, vanilla and carrot cakes baked by Louie’s Bakery were generously donated by Judy Boger and Gini Dubbs. Rolls from Malone’s were donated by George and Kathy Smith. Tim Gibbons Hospitality Management students from LCCC provided service as well as Boy Scout Troop 191.
The evening was made extra special through the efforts of Volunteer Dinner Committee members Judy Boger, Julie Dectis, Lee & Rita DeGasperis, Gini Dubbs, Barb & Drew Gubanich, Evelyn Hart, George Smith and Mary Pat Stark. The decorations included blue and white balloons from Mimi’s Balloons and pictures of volunteers in action cleverly placed on little plastic cars.
Thank you to the many raffle prize donors. Each volunteer was given five tickets and given the chance to win more than 75 lovely items. This raffle was a big hit and really appreciated by the volunteers.
