Local Companies Bring Joy to Our Homebound neighbors

12/12/2011

The holidays came early this year for a number of our Meals on Wheels clients. Employees of Air Products, Lehigh Valley Health Network and People First Credit Union brought joy to 87 of our homebound neighbors.

For more than 20 years the employees of Air Products have taken part in "Operation Santa Claus" by providing gifts to clients of Meals on Wheels as well as other agencies. This year they donated presents to 50 of our clients. Some of our regular volunteers then deliver the gifts to our clients, who are totally surprised and thrilled. 78-year-old Joan called to tell us: "The gift was so nice. It is the only one I will get this year. God bless the employees of Air Products. Thank you."

For the last 10 years, Lehigh Valley Health Network Departments have a holiday tree decorating contest. Each department decorates a table-top size tree and purchases gifts for our Meals on Wheels clients. The trees were picked up on December 8th and delivered to 36 of our clients. Everyone who received these trees and gifts were thrilled. A husband and wife in their mid-80's who received a tree and gifts said: We’ve been given so much, it is all for us? This was a complete surprise. We just love everything. Thank you."

LVHN Winning Tree

This is the first year that People First Credit Union employees donated holiday trees to our clients. The departments competed with each other to decorate the prettiest tree. The employees delivered them on December 6th and 7th. A 97-year-old client told us that the tree was "out of this world." She was touched by this thoughtful gift and also said: Thank you so much. I love Meals no Wheels."
