Meals on Wheels Volunteers Are Recognized at Dinner

4/16/2014

Meals on Wheels celebrated the accomplishments of its volunteers at the 2014 Volunteer Recognition Dinner on April 16th, 2014 at Asbury United Methodist Church.

The theme for this year’s dinner was “Our Volunteers are Stars.” Meals on Wheels clients were asked to let the Agency know why their volunteers were stars and some of these very poignant comments were included in the night’s program. For example, one client wrote:  “The volunteers are not just stars; they are a ray of sunshine.  They take time out of their lives to show us old-timers they care.  They put a smile on your face and they do care about you.  I look forward every day for the visit.”

Volunteers received awards for their many hours of service.  One of the highlights of the evening was the recognition of two volunteers who have achieved the extraordinary distinction of volunteering more than 5000 hours of service.  Donald Mabus has volunteered 5149 hours and Elaine Treby has volunteered 5084 hours.  They both received citations from the Pennsylvania Senate courtesy of Senator Patrick Browne.

Our star volunteers enjoyed a wonderful dinner prepared by Cura Hospitality and served by LCCC hospitality students led by Tim Gibbons. Dessert were fabulous cupcakes made by The Cakesmith. In addition they got to enjoy winning wonderful items donated by business and individual supporters.

Thank you to the following for making this event a success and letting our volunteers know what stars they are.
