On November 4, 150 guests enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Brookside Country Club to benefit the homebound seniors and adults with disabilities that Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County serves. This event featured an Italian-themed buffet, homemade desserts, musical entertainment and a silent auction and raised $23,500 to fund 3357 home-delivered meals.
Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver two meals and provide a wellbeing check and social visit to 350 homebound seniors and adults with disabilities each weekday. 90% of the Agency’s clients cannot afford to pay the full cost for their meals, so it is necessary to raise more than $400,000 each year. The Bountiful Bowl signature event is crucial to this fundraising effort.
Now in its 12th year, this event’s main attraction consists of a silent auction of handmade bowls and other vessels created by local artisans. Local woodturners and potters donated their handcrafted items which were appreciated by all the guests. Local businesses as well as other friends also donated items such as themed baskets, handmade jewelry and gift certificates.
Since 2001, this event has raised over $250,000 to benefit the homebound.
Bountiful Bowl committee co-chairs Mary Anne Johnson and Audrey Lauer and members Connie Archer, Wanda Fretz, Audrey Fronheiser, Sue McCann and Mary Pat Stark created a magical event decorated with white pumpkins filled with alstroemeria flowers as well as baked and donated the sumptuous desserts.
The creative chefs at Brookside Country Club ensured that all guests’ appetites were satiated with butlered hors d’oeuvres, soups, grilled vegetables, salad, breads, pasta bar, stuffed pork tenderloin and sautéed chicken in wine. Roger Latzgo played beautiful background music on the piano.
