On November 1, 2013 180 guests enjoyed an a wonderful autumn buffet, homemade desserts, musical entertainment a silent and live auction while raising more than $30,000 to fund over 4200 meals.
The event’s main attraction was a silent auction of handmade bowls and other vessels created by local woodturners, potters and other artisans. In addition, guests were able to bid on items such as jewelry, gift certificates and themed baskets. This year's event included a live auction of two handcrafted metal wine racks created by LSI Services, a cocktail party catered by Karen Hunter, a certificate for a holiday season front porch decoration by Ross Plants & Flowers and a child's pedal Mercedes Benz donated by Knopf Automotive.
Throughout the room were pictures of clients and paper plates filled with poignant client comments about what Meals on Wheels means to them. They included a picture of Clarence, who wrote: "I love my Meals on Wheels. I have been on them for 12 years. I don't know what I would do without them." Since 2001, this event has raised over $305,000 to fund meals for low-income homebound seniors and adults with disabilities.
